J-B Weld ClearWeld is a quick setting, multipurpose two part epoxy that provides a strong and lasting bond on most surfaces including tile, most plastics, ceramic, glass, wood and metal. ClearWeld is designed to cure with a clear, transparent bond when used at thicknesses of less than 15 mil. ClearWeld has a 1:1 mixing ratio, sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour. With a tensile strength of 3900 PSI, ClearWeld sets to a hard, permanent bond.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply even, continuous ¼ inch bead of Silicone to one surface area. Surround all bolt holes with Silicone.

Dry

Sets in 5 minutes. Cures in 1 hour. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

How much area does the 8 oz ClearWeld Professional Size cover?

The 8 oz size yields roughly 14 cubic inches of mixed epoxy. To estimate a crack fill, multiply its length by width by depth in inches and compare against that figure. ClearWeld is designed for thin bond lines, under about 15 mil, so deep voids are better filled in stages or backed with a filler rather than poured in one thick pass.

Can ClearWeld Professional Size be tinted or colored?

Yes, with dry powder tints of the kind sold at craft and hobby stores. Do not add liquid colorants, which interfere with the cure. Mix the powder into the combined resin and hardener and work quickly, since the set time is only 5 minutes. Left untinted it cures clear and transparent.

What is the mix ratio for ClearWeld Professional Size?

Mix equal parts resin and hardener, a 1:1 ratio. It sets in 5 minutes, cures in 1 hour and reaches 3900 PSI tensile strength. Mix thoroughly. Poorly mixed or very small batches are the most common cause of a soft or tacky result. Ambient temperature matters too, so work in a room between about 35 and 110 degrees F.

Is ClearWeld Professional Size dishwasher safe or oven safe?

No to both. J-B Weld does not publish a dishwasher rating for ClearWeld, and while it is non-toxic once cured it is not food-safe rated, so we do not recommend it on dishes, mugs or cookware. It is rated to about 250°F, so it is not oven safe either. Do not heat a repair to baking temperatures, because it will off-gas and break down.

Will ClearWeld harden on damp or pressure-treated wood?

It will harden, but the bond will be weak. Epoxy needs a clean, dry surface, so let pressure-treated lumber dry out and sand it before applying. The same applies to damp concrete and masonry. For wood joinery and wood repairs specifically, WoodWeld is the product formulated for that substrate.

How do I clean up excess ClearWeld?

Acetone works best on uncured ClearWeld, including wiping excess off wood or glass before it sets. Once it has cured you are removing it mechanically, by sanding or scraping. One caution on materials: ClearWeld can dissolve polystyrene, so test on a hidden area before using it on foam or craft plastics.

How do I keep ClearWeld from sticking to areas I don't want it to bond to?

Apply a release agent to those areas before you start. Candle wax or Gulf Wax works well, as does a very thin coat of petroleum jelly. ClearWeld won't adhere where the release agent is applied.

Can I add color or tint to ClearWeld?

Yes, with powder tints only. A very small amount of powder tint can be mixed into ClearWeld to add color. Do not use liquid tints.
