J-B Weld KwikWeld is a fast-setting, two-part epoxy cold weld system designed for strong, lasting repairs to metal and other surfaces. With a 1:1 mixing ratio, it sets in just 6 minutes and is fully cured in 4-6 hours. After mixing, it forms a permanent bond that can be shaped, tapped, filed, sanded, and drilled. KwikWeld cures to a dark gray color, has a tensile strength of 4360 PSI, and withstands temperatures up to 230°F.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint, or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

Squeeze equal parts from each tube onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 6 minutes. Cures in 4 hours. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does KwikWeld bond to, and what will it not bond?

KwikWeld bonds metal, aluminum, ceramic, concrete, brick, fiberglass, wood, and rigid plastics including PVC. Sand the surface dull and clean it with acetone first. It will not hold on polyethylene, polypropylene, flexible plastics, leather, or rubber. For plastics that flex, use PlasticBonder (50139); for leather, fabric, or upholstery, use a contact cement instead.

How long does KwikWeld take to set and cure?

KwikWeld sets in about 6 minutes and cures fully in 4 to 6 hours, against 4 to 6 hours to set and 15 to 24 hours to cure for J-B Weld Original. Below 40F the set time gets longer. Apply it at 35F or warmer and keep it from freezing until it has cured. Mix only what you can place within a couple of minutes.

Should I use KwikWeld or J-B Weld Original?

Use KwikWeld when you need a fast repair and Original when you need maximum strength or heat resistance. Original is rated at 6220 PSI tensile and 550F; KwikWeld is 4360 PSI with a much lower temperature rating. J-B Weld recommends Original over KwikWeld on aluminum, where it gives a stronger bond, and for any repair that will see sustained heat.

How much heat can KwikWeld handle?

J-B Weld lists KwikWeld's maximum temperature at up to 250F once fully cured, well below the 550F rating of J-B Weld Original. Keep it away from exhaust parts, cylinder heads, and anything that runs hotter. If your repair will see real heat, choose J-B Weld Original, or ExtremeHeat for exhaust and other high-temperature work.

Can I sand, drill, and paint KwikWeld after it cures?

Yes. Once cured, KwikWeld can be shaped, filed, sanded, drilled, and tapped, and it accepts enamel or latex paint. It cures dark gray. You can also build a repair up in layers: wait about 45 minutes between layers and scuff each one lightly so the next coat has something to grip.

Is KwikWeld safe for drinking water or food contact?

No. KwikWeld is not certified for potable water and is not rated food-safe, even though it is considered non-toxic once fully cured. Do not use it on drinking water lines, cookware, or anything that touches food or beverages. For a drinking water repair, use J-B Weld WaterWeld (8277), which carries NSF certification.

Can I paint over KwikWeld once it has cured?

Yes. Once fully cured, KwikWeld can be painted with enamel or latex paints, so your repair can blend in with the surrounding surface.

What kind of paint works on KwikWeld?

Enamel and latex paints both work well over cured KwikWeld. Make sure the repair has reached full cure before you paint.
