How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply even, continuous ¼ inch bead of Silicone to one surface area. Surround all bolt holes with Silicone.

Dry

Sets in 5 minutes. Cures in 1 hour. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is SeamWeld designed for?

SeamWeld is made for bonding and sealing automotive body panel seams, where impact and vibration resistance matter more than raw tensile strength. It sets in 5 minutes, cures in 1 hour and reaches 2350 PSI tensile strength. It cures white. Because the set time is short, position and clamp the panel before you mix anything.

What surfaces does SeamWeld bond?

SeamWeld bonds metal, aluminum, plastics and composites, PVC, fiberglass and rubber, which suits panel seams that combine materials. Like all J-B Weld epoxies it will not hold on polyethylene or polypropylene. Scuff the area, remove paint and rust where you can, and clean with acetone before applying.

Can SeamWeld be used on cloth headliners or fabric?

You can bond cloth with it, a headliner for example, but it will not look neat. SeamWeld is a structural seam adhesive, not a fabric glue, and it cures white and rigid, so it shows through fabric and stiffens the area. For upholstery and headliners, a trim or weatherstrip adhesive gives a far better result.

Can SeamWeld be used on a plastic fuel tank?

No. Plastic fuel tanks are almost always polyethylene or polypropylene, and neither SeamWeld nor any other J-B Weld product will bond to those plastics. There is also no published fuel resistance rating for SeamWeld. Replace the tank or have it plastic-welded. For metal fuel components, look at the Original J-B Weld formula instead.

How should I prepare a seam before applying SeamWeld?

Surface prep decides whether the repair holds. Sand or scuff the area to break any gloss, remove paint, rust and wax, then wipe with acetone and let it flash off. Both surfaces must be dry. Mix equal parts, apply within the 5-minute working window, and leave the joint undisturbed for the full one-hour cure.

How should I store my syringe between uses?

Store the syringe nose-up rather than lying on its side. Keeping it upright helps prevent the tips from becoming contaminated, so the product stays ready for your next repair.
