Product Details

J-B Weld Clear Sealant and Adhesive is a general purpose sealant adhesive, RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) Silicone designed for use in household or mechanical assembly applications. Upon curing, which occurs when the product is exposed to the moisture in air, the silicone forms a tough, waterproof, mildew and mold resistant seal on most surfaces. It will not shrink or crack, resists weathering, is sensor safe and is great for many household and automotive applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is J-B Weld Clear Silicone aquarium safe or food safe?

No. This product is not rated for aquarium use, food contact, potable water, or cookware, and J-B Weld does not certify it for any of those. The company's only NSF-certified repair product is WaterWeld 8277. Do not use it on fish tanks, oven door glass, or anything that touches food, since it can off-gas when heated. Choose a sealant specifically labeled for that use.

What is the maximum temperature for Clear Silicone Sealant?

J-B Weld does not publish a temperature rating for Clear Silicone. Treat it as a general-purpose household and light assembly sealant, not a gasket maker, and keep it out of exhaust systems and sustained high-heat areas. For automotive heat, use Hi-Temp Red (31314), which J-B Weld rates to 550°F continuous and 650°F intermittent.

Can Clear Silicone be used underwater or in a hot tub?

J-B Weld does not publish an immersion or hot tub rating for Clear Silicone. Cured RTV silicone is waterproof and the product page describes a waterproof seal, but for a hot tub, pool or anything under continuous immersion, use a sealant specifically labeled for that service. If you do use it on a wet-area seal, apply to clean dry surfaces and allow a full 24 hours in open air before refilling.

Is Clear Silicone a neutral cure or an acid cure product?

It is an acetoxy, or acid-cure, silicone. It releases acetic acid, the vinegar smell, as it cures and relies on humidity in the air to set. That acid can etch or discolor some metals, mirrors, and painted finishes. If you need a neutral, low-odor cure for aluminum, paint, or sensitive electronics, use Ultimate Grey 32327, which is an oxime silicone.

How strong is Clear Silicone for gluing glass, ceramic, or outdoor garden art?

It cures to a flexible, rubbery consistency rather than a rigid bond, so its holding power comes from contact area rather than adhesive strength, and J-B Weld does not publish a tensile or pressure figure for it. For stacked glass or heavy outdoor pieces, use Ultimate Grey (32327) for the seal, or Original J-B Weld (8265) where you need a structural bond.

Will Clear Silicone bond to silicone rubber parts?

No. RTV silicone sealant does not bond to cured silicone rubber sheet, tubing, or phone cases, even though the names are similar; the chemistry is different and the joint will peel. Use a contact cement or an adhesive made for silicone rubber instead. The same limit applies to rubber weatherstrip and rubber gaskets, where a contact cement or cyanoacrylate works better.
