EXHAUST SYSTEM SEALANT 3 OZ

It seals gaps, smooths seams and seals pipe connections during exhaust reassembly or repair. It is a joint sealer for connection points, not a patch for a hole or crack in the wall of a pipe. For a hole or split in the pipe itself, use ExhaustWeld Fiberglass Wrap (38572) or a Tiger Patch, depending on how hot that section runs.

It resists temperatures up to 850 F / 454 C once cured, which covers muffler, mid-pipe and tailpipe connections. It is non-shrinking, so the seal holds as the joint heats and cools. For the hottest parts of the system, at the manifold, header flange or turbo, copper RTV silicone or ExtremeHeat Paste is the better choice.

It sets in about 30 minutes, then you run the engine for 10 minutes to finish the cure. Assemble and clamp the joint while the sealant is still workable so it is compressed into the gap. Do not drive the vehicle before the set time has passed, and let the system cool before checking the joint.

Yes, it is water resistant once fully cured. Completing the heat cure by running the engine is what gives it that resistance, so do not skip it. For small leaks in the body of the system that sit in road spray, copper RTV silicone is also a good option and tolerates flexing at the joint better.

Not easily. It dries to a hard, cement-like seal rather than staying flexible, so a joint sealed with it is difficult to separate without cutting or grinding. If you need a slip joint or flange to come apart again, use copper RTV silicone such as Ultimate Copper (32325), which seals under clamp load and stays removable.
