Frequently Asked Questions

What pipe sizes and materials does the FiberWeld 1" Pipe Repair Cast work on?

It repairs pipes up to 1 inch in diameter and works on copper, cast iron, galvanized steel, PVC, ABS and similar materials. The package contains a 48 inch wrap, a 1 oz epoxy putty stick, gloves and a securing bandage. Press the putty into the hole or pinhole first, then wrap over it; the putty is what actually seals the leak.

How much pressure can a FiberWeld pipe repair hold?

It holds water pressure up to 500 PSI when used together with the included epoxy putty, which covers normal household water pressure with plenty of margin. It is not a fix for hydraulic, pump discharge or power steering pressure lines, where it will lift or blow out, and it is not recommended for gas or fuel lines. Those need replacement or a welded repair.

Can FiberWeld be used on a drinking water line?

It will physically seal a potable water line, but it has not been tested or certified to NSF standards for drinking water. If the line carries water you drink, the J-B Weld product tested for that is WaterWeld (8277). Treat a FiberWeld repair on a potable line as a temporary measure until the damaged section can be replaced.

How fast do I have to work once I open the FiberWeld package?

Fast. Once the wrap is exposed to air it stays usable for roughly twenty minutes even without wetting it, and humid air shortens that further. Have the pipe cleaned and all your materials laid out before you open the pouch. After you activate it with water it sets in 5 to 10 minutes and cures in 15 to 20 minutes.

Can I cut the wrap into pieces or use it outdoors?

Yes to both. You can cut the wrap into smaller strips before wetting it, which is useful for multiple pinholes, and you should wear the included gloves while handling it. It works outdoors, and a coat of spray paint helps the repair last in sun and weather. Use any cut pieces in the same session, since leftover wrap will cure in the package.
