Frequently Asked Questions

What is the FiberWeld Permanent Repair Cast used for?

It is a general-purpose structural wrap rather than a plumbing kit. The 2 in x 36 in black wrap is water activated and rated to 1500 PSI, and it bonds to wood, metal, plastic, PVC, rubber, fiberglass and even wet surfaces. Typical jobs are splinting broken furniture legs, posts, handles and rails. Cured, it is water resistant, paintable and sandable.

How hot can a cured FiberWeld Permanent Repair Cast get?

J-B Weld does not publish a temperature rating for this wrap, and support has put the practical limit at around 200 F. Do not use it on exhaust, flue, stove or other high-heat parts. For an exhaust repair use ExhaustWeld Fiberglass Wrap, rated to 1100 F, or a Tiger Patch, rated to 600 F, on mufflers and tailpipes.

How quickly does it set, and can I cut the wrap before applying it?

It sets in 5 to 10 minutes and cures in 15 to 20 minutes once activated with water. You can cut the strips to size before wetting them, which helps on small repairs; wear the included gloves when you handle the wrap. Prepare the surface and lay out everything you need before you open the package.

Can a FiberWeld repair stay underwater permanently?

It is water resistant and will bond to a wet surface, but J-B Weld has not tested it for long-term submersion and does not expect it to hold up under continuous underwater use. Use it for repairs that get wet or splashed rather than ones that stay submerged. Painting the cured wrap helps it last outdoors.

How do I remove a FiberWeld cast once it has cured?

By grinding. No solvent will dissolve a cured fiberglass cast, so removal means grinding or sanding it off the part. Plan the repair before you wet the wrap, because it hardens within about 15 minutes and cannot be repositioned once it starts to set.
