Product Details

J-B Weld KwikWeld is a fast-setting, two-part epoxy cold weld system designed for strong, lasting repairs to metal and other surfaces. With a 1:1 mixing ratio, it sets in just 6 minutes and is fully cured in 4-6 hours. After mixing, it forms a permanent bond that can be shaped, tapped, filed, sanded, and drilled. KwikWeld cures to a dark gray color, has a tensile strength of 4360 PSI, and withstands temperatures up to 230°F.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint, or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

Squeeze equal parts from each tube onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 6 minutes. Cures in 4 hours. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the 10 oz KwikWeld Professional Size the same formula as the 2 oz twin tube?

Yes, it is the same quick-setting KwikWeld formula in a larger package. It sets in about 6 minutes, cures in 4 to 6 hours, mixes 1:1, and is rated at 4360 PSI tensile strength. The 10 oz size suits larger repairs or shops that go through a lot of epoxy; the 2 oz twin tube (8276) is the same product for occasional use.

How much heat can KwikWeld Professional handle?

J-B Weld's Professional Size page lists KwikWeld at up to 300°F once fully cured, while the 2 oz KwikWeld page and J-B Weld's FAQ both list 250°F for the same formula. Design to 250°F to be safe. By comparison J-B Weld Original is rated to 550°F. Below 40°F the set time gets noticeably longer. If your repair will see sustained engine or exhaust heat, use HighHeat (8297) or ExtremeHeat (37901) instead.

What is the shelf life, and how should I store it after opening?

J-B Weld lists a three-year shelf life for its epoxies when stored properly. Store the tubes upright in a cool, dry place with the caps on tight, and do not let them freeze. If a tube has thickened or the two sides seem to have separated after long storage, letting them warm up to room temperature usually brings the consistency back.

Can I use KwikWeld to repair a pressurized pipe or tank?

J-B Weld publishes no pressure rating for KwikWeld, so treat any pressurized repair as temporary. It can seal a pinhole leak at a fitting on a low-pressure tank if the surface is sanded, clean and completely dry and the system is depressurized during the repair and full cure. For plumbing under household supply pressure, WaterWeld (8277) is the product to use: it is rated to 500 PSI and certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 for drinking water.

Will KwikWeld repair a plastic fuel tank?

No. J-B Weld does not offer a product for plastic fuel tanks, which are usually polyethylene or polypropylene and resist epoxy bonding, and ethanol in gasoline attacks the repair as well. For a steel fuel tank, use J-B Weld TankWeld epoxy putty (8217). For a plastic tank, replacement is the reliable fix.

Can I paint over KwikWeld once it has cured?

Yes. Once fully cured, KwikWeld can be painted with enamel or latex paints, so your repair can blend in with the surrounding surface.

What kind of paint works on KwikWeld?

Enamel and latex paints both work well over cured KwikWeld. Make sure the repair has reached full cure before you paint.
