Frequently Asked Questions

How is SuperWeld Extreme different from standard SuperWeld?

SuperWeld Extreme is a no drip gel that cures to a flexible, impact resistant bond, where standard SuperWeld is a thinner liquid that cures rigid. The gel stays where you put it on vertical surfaces and overhead work. It sets in 30 seconds and cures in 24 hours at 3000 PSI, so it trades a little set speed for shock resistance and a bit of give.

Will it hold rubber to metal on parts that go from cold to hot?

Yes, rubber to steel is one of its better applications, and the flexible bond tolerates the expansion and contraction that cracks a rigid glue. Clean both surfaces with rubbing alcohol and apply above freezing. Keep the joint below roughly 250 degrees F; past that the cured bond begins to lose strength, so it is not suited to anything near an exhaust or a heating element.

Can I use it for anything load bearing, like climbing rope?

No. It will adhere to rope fibers, but no cyanoacrylate is rated for life safety or load bearing use and you should not rely on it there. The same applies to pressurized automotive lines: a transmission line or a fuel line needs a proper repair coupler, or a repair hose with clamps on a rubber return line, not an adhesive.

Will heat from a heat gun speed up the cure?

Only a little. Cyanoacrylate cures from moisture in the air and on the surfaces rather than from heat, so warm air does not do much and can drive off the moisture the cure depends on. If you applied a thick bead, give it time instead; full cure is 24 hours. A dedicated cyanoacrylate accelerator works far better than a heat gun.

What solvents will attack the cured bond?

MEK will soften cured SuperWeld Extreme, and acetone will as well. That matters if the repaired part will be cleaned with or immersed in solvents; choose an epoxy for those jobs instead. It also gives you a way out of a bad repair, since soaking a small part in acetone is usually the easiest way to take a cyanoacrylate bond apart.

How should I store SuperWeld to make it last longer?

For the longest shelf life, store SuperWeld nose-up in the refrigerator at 34–40°F. Keeping it upright helps keep the tip clear, and the cool temperature extends its usable life.
