Product Details

J-B Weld KwikWood is a hand-mixable epoxy putty formulated to repair and rebuild wood. It blends seamlessly with wood, matching its density and becoming an integral part of the repair. Perfect for both interior and exterior applications. It contains no solvents, so it won't rot, shrink, crack, or pull away. KwikWood has a 15-25 minute work life, sets in 60 minutes, and can be tapped, drilled, sanded, and painted once cured to a light tan color.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can KwikWood be stained to match the surrounding wood?

KwikWood is listed as stainable, but it is an epoxy rather than wood and will not absorb stain the way the surrounding grain does. Support's practical answer is that it takes paint but not stain. On stained or finished wood, plan to touch the repair in with paint or a color-matched glaze after it cures rather than trying to stain it.

Can KwikWood be used to glue two pieces of wood together?

KwikWood is a filler, not an adhesive, so it is not the right choice for joining boards or closing a split that carries load. Use wood glue and clamps for that, or Original J-B Weld (8265) on bare, unfinished wood where you need more strength. KwikWood is for filling gouges, holes, rot pockets, missing edges and screw holes.

Can KwikWood be sanded and drilled, and does it shrink?

Yes. KwikWood sets in 15 to 25 minutes and cures in about an hour, after which it can be sanded, drilled, tapped, filed, machined and painted. It cures tan and has a tensile strength of 2450 PSI. It does not expand or shrink as it cures and will not rot or crack. For a hole you intend to redrill, let it cure fully first.

How long do you have to work with KwikWood after mixing it?

You get roughly 15 to 25 minutes of working time once the two parts are kneaded to a uniform color, and it is hard in about an hour. There is no reliable way to extend that. Adding a few drops of acetone will keep it pliable longer but can weaken the cured putty. For a large repair, mix and apply in smaller batches instead.

How cold can it be when you apply KwikWood outdoors?

Apply it above freezing and keep it above freezing for at least the first eight hours. Below about 40°F it still works, but cure time stretches out considerably, so keep a space heater or an incandescent lamp near the repair. It will not cure at or below freezing. Once fully cured, cold weather does not affect the finished repair.
