How to Use

Prepare

Clean all threads (bolt and hole) with a cleaning solvent. Shake the product thoroughly before use.

Apply

For thru holes, apply several drops of product onto the bolt at the nut engagement area.

Assemble

Assemble and tighten as usual. When tightening to established torque values, torque compensation is not required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I use blue or red threadlocker?

Use blue where you want the fastener to stay put but still come apart with hand tools later, which covers most serviceable bolts and smaller fasteners. Red 27106 is the high-strength grade and needs heat plus hand tools to release. J-B Weld's support team gives breakaway figures of about 115 for the blue and 230 for the red, roughly a two to one difference.

How long does Perma-Lock Blue need before the part goes back into service?

Allow about one hour for handling strength on clean, dry steel. J-B Weld's published data for the larger Perma-Lock bottles gives a longer window, setting in four to six hours and curing in 15 to 24 hours, so leave a heavily loaded fastener overnight before you rely on it. Torque the fastener to specification immediately after assembly, not after the product sets. For a fastener carrying real load, go by the published 15 to 24 hour figure rather than the one-hour handling-strength guidance, and leave it overnight.

Can Perma-Lock Blue be used on plastic parts or coated screws?

No. Threadlockers cure only on metal and only where air is excluded, so a screw going into a plastic housing will leave the product liquid and it will never lock. Painted or heavily coated screws are also unreliable because the coating blocks metal contact. For a screw in plastic, a cyanoacrylate super glue works better as an improvised thread lock.

How hot can Perma-Lock Blue get before it lets go?

J-B Weld lists Perma-Lock as temperature resistant to 300 degrees (the product page gives the figure without a unit; 300°F is the standard rating for medium-strength anaerobic threadlockers and the safe assumption). That covers most chassis, suspension and accessory fasteners, but rules out exhaust studs, turbo hardware and anything against a hot manifold. Not recommended for fasteners in constant contact with fuel.

How do I prepare the threads before applying Perma-Lock Blue?

Clean and dry both the bolt and the hole. Any oil, grease, coolant, or anti-seize left in the threads will keep the product from curing, so degrease with brake cleaner or acetone and let the parts dry. Apply several drops down the engaged thread length, or into the hole on a blind hole, then assemble and tighten to the normal torque specification right away.
