PlasticBonder™ Tan is a quick-setting, two-part, urethane adhesive system that provides strong and lasting repairs and works on thermoset, carbon fiber composites, thermoplastics, coated metals, concrete & more. PlasticBonder™ has a 1:1 mixing ratio, sets in 6 minutes and cures in 1 hour to a tan color. With a strength of 3770 PSI, PlasticBonder™ cures to a hard, permanent bond.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint, or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 15 minutes. Cures in 30 minutes. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

What is the difference between PlasticBonder Tan and PlasticBonder Black?

Nothing except the cured color. PlasticBonder Tan (50133) and PlasticBonder Black (50139) are the same urethane adhesive with the same 15-minute set, 30-minute cure and 3770 PSI tensile strength. Pick whichever blends with your part. Support often points to the black version for automotive and plumbing work simply because it hides better on dark components.

Which plastics does PlasticBonder Tan bond?

It bonds hard plastics and composites, including ABS, polycarbonate, PET, thermoset and carbon fiber composites, fiberglass, coated metals and concrete. It will not bond HDPE or LDPE. On polypropylene and other flexible plastics it can give a cosmetic repair but not a structural one. Sand or score the surface and clean it with acetone before applying.

How long does PlasticBonder Tan take to set and cure?

It sets in 15 minutes and cures in 30 minutes, with a tensile strength of 3770 PSI and a 1:1 mix ratio. It cures tan. The longer set time compared with the 5-minute products gives you room to position parts before it grabs. Let it cure fully before loading the joint or exposing it to water or humidity.

What is the temperature rating for PlasticBonder Tan?

J-B Weld support rates it to 250 degrees F after a full cure. You may see 300 degrees F listed by third-party industrial distributors, but 250 is the figure J-B Weld gives. For a car radiator or anything exposed to sustained engine heat, use the Original J-B Weld formula or the 2120 radiator repair kit instead.

Is PlasticBonder Tan resistant to oil, fuel, or coolant?

It is oil resistant once cured, so an ABS oil tank or similar part is a reasonable use. It is not gasoline resistant and is not recommended for plastic fuel tanks. For glycol-based coolant, the Original J-B Weld formula is the better choice. Applied to a dry surface, it holds up fine to humidity and condensation afterward.

Is PlasticBonder Tan flexible once cured?

It is a urethane and has some give once cured. A thin cured strip will bend without cracking. It is still not a flexible adhesive, and it will not work on high-density foam rubber, styrofoam or silicone mats, which are too soft or too slick to bond. Use spray contact cement or mechanical fasteners for those materials.

How should I store my syringe between uses?

Store the syringe nose-up rather than lying on its side. Keeping it upright helps prevent the tips from becoming contaminated, so the product stays ready for your next repair.
