Product Details

PlasticWeld™ is a quick setting two-part epoxy adhesive that provides a strong and lasting bond on most surfaces including Wood, Glass, Plastics, Metals and more. PlasticWeld cures to a clear transparent bond when applied at a thickness of less than 15 mil. PlasticWeld has a 1:1 mixing ratio, sets in 5 minutes and cures in about 1 hour. With a tensile strength of 3900 PSI, it cures to a hard, permanent bond.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean repair area of dirt, grease, oil, paint, rust, etc.* * For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 5 minutes. Cures in one hour, and can be sanded, drilled, filed, and tapped.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PlasticWeld and PlasticBonder?

PlasticWeld (50132) is an epoxy suited to clear and rigid plastics and stays slightly more flexible; it cures translucent yellow. PlasticBonder is a urethane adhesive with a stronger hold on hard plastics, composites and coated metals, and comes in tan (50133) or black (50139), where color is the only difference between the two. For structural plastic repairs, choose PlasticBonder.

Which plastics does PlasticWeld bond, and which will it not?

PlasticWeld bonds ABS, nylon, PVC, acetal (Delrin), fiberglass and polyurethane parts such as an auto front lip. It will not bond polypropylene, polyethylene, HDPE or UHMW, and it is not recommended for polycarbonate. Flexible plastics generally will not hold. Scuff or sand the surfaces and clean them with acetone first, since surface prep does most of the work.

How fast does PlasticWeld set and how strong is it?

PlasticWeld sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour at a 1:1 mix ratio, reaching 3900 PSI tensile strength. It cures translucent yellow. Allow a full cure before loading the joint. It holds up to vibration, including off-road brackets, provided you sanded the area, cleaned it, and applied enough material for a real bond line.

What temperature can PlasticWeld withstand?

PlasticWeld is rated to 250 degrees F for intermittent exposure. Around 200 degrees F of continuous heat is where the bond starts to change, so a 150 degree F continuous application is fine. It will not survive above 250 degrees F. For under-hood repairs near sustained heat, use the Original J-B Weld formula or a HighHeat product instead.

Is PlasticWeld waterproof, oil resistant, or fuel resistant?

PlasticWeld is water resistant once fully cured and works on submerged repairs after a complete cure, but the surface must be dry when you apply it. It is not oil resistant and not fuel resistant. For oil exposure use PlasticBonder; for fuel, use Original J-B Weld, KwikWeld or SteelStik depending on the part.

Why does my syringe dispense more from one side than the other?

Change how you hold it. Push the plunger with your palm while gripping the barrel with your other hand to add resistance, instead of pressing with your thumb. Dispense onto the mixing tray and check that you have equal amounts before mixing. An uneven mix cures soft or stays tacky, so it is worth correcting before you apply anything.

How should I store my syringe between uses?

Store the syringe nose-up rather than lying on its side. Keeping it upright helps prevent the tips from becoming contaminated, so the product stays ready for your next repair.
