J-B Weld Ultimate Copper Gasket Maker and Sealant is an RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) Silicone gasketing material that is 3 times more oil resistant than conventional silicones and designed to resist the high operating temperatures of turbocharged or high-performance engines. Ultimate Copper is effective in temperatures from -75°F to 700°F intermittent. Upon curing, which occurs when the product is exposed to the moisture in air, the silicone forms a tough, waterproof seal on most surfaces. It will not shrink or crack, resists weathering, is sensor safe and is great for many automotive applications.

How to Use

Prepare

For best results, clean and dry surface area

Apply

Apply even, continuous ¼ inch bead of Silicone to one surface area. Surround all bolt holes with Silicone.

Assemble

Reconnect parts while Silicone is wet.

Secure

Hand tighten until Silicone begins to squeeze out.

Dry

Allow drying for 1 hour and then tighten an additional ½ turn.

Finish

Scrape or cut away excess cured sealant. Silicone will fully cure in 24 hours.

How hot can Ultimate Copper get?

It is rated to 700 F intermittent, which puts it at the top of the J-B Weld silicone range alongside Ultimate Black and makes it the recommended choice for exhaust sealing near the catalytic converter and other high-heat joints. It stays flexible at temperature rather than going brittle. Set time is one hour and full cure is 24 hours, and it is sensor safe.

What surfaces does Ultimate Copper work on?

It is meant for steel and other metals, especially exhaust components and high-heat assemblies. It will not hold on plastic, where it peels off, and it is not a substitute for brazing or a structural epoxy on load-bearing metal joints such as a pot handle. Sand the area, then clean it with acetone or rubbing alcohol so the bead has clean bare metal to grip.

Should I use Ultimate Copper or Ultimate Black for an oil leak?

Use Ultimate Black 32329 for oil. Both reach 700 F intermittent, but Ultimate Black is formulated for maximum petroleum and oil resistance and is the better gasket maker for oil pans, sump plugs, covers, and case seams. Ultimate Copper's strength is sustained high heat on exhaust work. Neither one is a fix for a stripped or damaged thread, which needs to be retapped.

Can Ultimate Copper seal a fuel tank sender unit?

No. J-B Weld's silicones are not fuel resistant, so gasoline will dissolve the seal around a tank sender flange. If the sender only needs to be bonded in place and will not flex, Original J-B Weld epoxy is an option; for a flexible fuel-resistant seal J-B Weld does not have a recommendation and you should use a gasket material rated for fuel contact.
