Product Details

J-B Weld Blue Gasket Maker and Sealant is an RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanized) Silicone gasketing material designed for use in mechanical assemblies, sealing and bonding uneven surfaces. Upon curing, which occurs when the product is exposed to the moisture in air, the silicone forms a tough, waterproof seal on most surfaces. It will not shrink or crack, resists weathering, is sensor safe and is great for many automotive applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What temperature is Blue Silicone Gasket Maker rated for?

J-B Weld does not publish a temperature figure for this product. Treat it as the low-heat option in the gasket maker line and use it for general gasketing on parts that do not see sustained engine heat. Where heat matters, use a rated product: Hi-Temp Red (31314) at 550°F continuous and 650°F intermittent, Ultimate Grey (32327) at 500°F intermittent, or Ultimate Copper (32325) at 700°F intermittent.

Can Blue Silicone be used to seal a fuel tank sender or anything touching gasoline?

No. Gasoline and diesel dissolve RTV silicone of every color, so a fuel sender mounting plate, tank flange, or carburetor body will eventually leak even if the part is only splashed rather than submerged. Use a fuel-rated gasket material or thread sealer for that job. Blue Silicone is for water, air, and low-temperature mechanical sealing only.

What is Blue Silicone Gasket Maker best used for?

It is a general-purpose RTV gasketing material for sealing and bonding uneven surfaces in lower-temperature mechanical assemblies, on metal, plastic, composite, and PVC. It cures by absorbing moisture from the air into a waterproof seal that will not shrink or crack, is sensor safe, sets in one hour, and fully cures in 24 hours. Apply and cure it above freezing.

Will Blue Silicone stand up to acids, alkalis, or other chemicals in a PVC joint?

No. It is not formulated for acid or alkali chemical service, and J-B Weld does not publish chemical resistance data for it. For a reworkable seal between PVC parts exposed to chemical solutions, support points to Ultimate Grey 32327, a denser neutral oxime silicone with better adhesion and durability. Confirm compatibility with your specific chemical before you commit to any sealant.
