Product Details

MarineWeld™ is a specially formulated two-part urethane system that provides strong, lasting repairs for bonding different or similar surfaces, such as metal, SMC fiberglass and others. MarineWeld™ has a 1:1 mixing ratio, sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour to a white color. It may then be tapped, filed, sanded and drilled, retaining full strength above or below the water’s surface.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean repair area of dirt, grease, oil, paint, rust, etc.* * For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 5 minutes. Cures in one hour, and can be sanded, drilled, filed, and tapped.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is MarineWeld waterproof, and can the repair be submerged?

Yes. Once fully cured MarineWeld is water resistant and holds up submerged, including in bathtubs, toilets and hot tubs. The surface must be clean, dry and lightly sanded when you apply it, and the repair must cure fully, ideally overnight, before water touches it. Constant salt water combined with direct sunlight is hard on any epoxy and shortens the repair's life.

How fast does MarineWeld set and how strong is it?

MarineWeld Syringe sets in 5 minutes, cures in 1 hour, and reaches 2350 PSI tensile strength. It cures white. In cold conditions near 30 degrees F, keep a small heater near the repair for at least four hours to get a proper bond. Once cured it can be sanded, drilled, filed and tapped.

What temperature range can MarineWeld handle?

Support rates MarineWeld to 250 degrees F on the high end, and it has been tested to 0 degrees F after a full cure, so cold-water submersion is not a problem. Sustained heat above that range breaks the bond down. For engine-bay heat, the Original J-B Weld formula is rated much higher at 550 degrees F.

Is MarineWeld resistant to gasoline?

No. MarineWeld is not gasoline resistant, and J-B Weld does not offer a product for repairing plastic fuel tanks, which are typically polyethylene or polypropylene. For a fuel-wetted seam, use a gasoline-rated sealer or a fiberglass repair kit. MarineWeld is oil resistant, so ordinary oils and lubricants are not a concern.

What color does MarineWeld cure, and can it be painted?

MarineWeld cures white, which blends with white fiberglass, tile and tubs. It will yellow over time, especially outdoors in sunlight, so plan to paint it if appearance matters long term. Once fully cured it can be sanded and painted with automotive paint. Avoid cleaning a finished repair with acetone or acetone-based cleaners, which break the product down.

Which plastics will MarineWeld not bond?

MarineWeld will not bond polyethylene, polypropylene, HDPE or UHMW. That rules out rotomolded kayaks and canoes, poly water tanks and UHMW sheet, where epoxy simply does not hold. It does fill cracks in fiberglass, SMC and most hard plastics and bonds aluminum, steel and wood. Sand and clean with acetone before applying to anything it does bond.

How should I store my syringe between uses?

Store the syringe nose-up rather than lying on its side. Keeping it upright helps prevent the tips from becoming contaminated, so the product stays ready for your next repair.
