J-B Weld Tiger Patch is a temperature resistant epoxy combined with fiberglass that cures with heat. When in contact with a heat source, this product will cure itself and form a strong, permanent patch to the underlying surface.

How to Use

Prepare

Turn off engine. Clean surface area of oil, dirt, and rust.

Remove

Take off and dispose of brown outer paper. Peel off and discard red plastic film on both sides of the patch.

Apply

For HOT areas, cover hole with aluminum tape (included) before wrapping. Wrap Tiger Patch firmly around damaged area with a 1" overlap. Use remaining aluminum tape or strapping as support to hold Tiger Patch in place while curing.

Cure

Idle motor or drive vehicle for 20 minutes to cure product. Remove aluminum tape or strapping after curing.

What comes in the Tiger Patch Kit and how do I apply it?

The kit contains an epoxy-coated fiberglass patch, aluminum tape and gloves. Shut the engine off and clean oil, dirt and rust from the pipe. Remove the brown outer paper, then peel the red plastic film off both sides of the patch. Cover the hole with aluminum tape, wrap the patch firmly with a 1 inch overlap, and secure it with tape or strapping.

How hot can a Tiger Patch Kit repair get?

The Tiger Patch Kit withstands up to 600 F, which suits mufflers and tailpipes. It is not intended for the hotter front of the exhaust system, so a crack in a Y-pipe, downpipe, header or manifold calls for ExhaustWeld Fiberglass Wrap (38572), rated to 1100 F. Confirm where the leak actually is before you choose a product.

How does the Tiger Patch Kit cure?

With heat. Once the patch is wrapped and secured, idle the engine or drive the vehicle for about 20 minutes and it hardens. There is no specific activation temperature; heat drives a chemical reaction, so the practical requirement is to keep the product above freezing during application, since cold weather weakens the bond.

Do I have to remove the aluminum tape after the patch cures?

No. You can leave the tape on if you want to. J-B Weld suggests removing it for appearance rather than performance, since it adds little structural strength either way. Do remove any strapping or other temporary support you used to hold the patch tight while it cured.

Can the Tiger Patch Kit repair fiberglass or a leaking fuel tank?

No to both. For a hole in fiberglass you need a fiberglass patch and resin kit. For a hole in a steel fuel tank, Tiger Patch will not resist gasoline; use TankWeld (2110) instead. Tiger Patch is made for exhaust metal, specifically mufflers and tailpipes, and fuel leaks are a fire risk worth fixing properly.
