ClearWeld™ is a quick setting two part epoxy adhesive that provides a strong and lasting bond on most surfaces including Wood, Glass, Plastics, Metals and more. ClearWeld cures to a clear transparent bond when applied at a thickness of less than 15 mil. ClearWeld has a 1:1 mixing ratio, sets in 5 minutes and cures in about 1 hour. With a tensile strength of 3900 PSI, it cures to a hard,
permanent bond.

How to Use

Prepare

Clean surface area of dirt, grease, oil, paint or loose debris. For best results use a detergent or degreaser to first clean the surface, then roughen surface with file or coarse sandpaper to provide the best repair.

Mix

After removing the replaceable cap, press down on plunger and squeeze equal amounts onto a disposable surface and mix thoroughly.

Apply

Apply with appropriate tool in an even coat, weld bead or extruded shape as needed.

Dry

Sets in 5 minutes. Cures in 1 hour. If temperature is below 40ºF, then set time is longer.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which plastics does ClearWeld bond, and which will it not?

ClearWeld bonds most hard plastics, including ABS, polycarbonate and acrylic taillight lenses, plus glass, ceramic, tile, wood and metal. It will not bond polypropylene or polyurethane, and it is not suitable for polyethylene. If a part flexes noticeably it is probably polypropylene or polyethylene, and no epoxy will hold. For rigid ABS or polycarbonate under load, PlasticBonder is stronger.

How fast does ClearWeld set, and what temperature can I apply it at?

ClearWeld sets in 5 minutes and cures in 1 hour, with 3900 PSI tensile strength and a 1:1 mix ratio. Apply and cure it between 35 and 110 degrees F; it cures faster at the warm end and much more slowly below 40 degrees F. Allow a full 24 hours before sanding or putting the repair under load.

Why did my ClearWeld dry cloudy instead of clear?

High humidity during cure is the usual cause of a cloudy or hazy finish, so work in a dry space. Incomplete mixing is the other common cause, and it leaves the material soft as well as uneven. Mixed and cured properly, ClearWeld dries clear and transparent. Like most clear epoxies, it can amber slightly under long, direct UV exposure.

Can ClearWeld be sanded and painted?

It sands well but takes paint poorly. Wait 24 hours for a full cure, then start around 150 grit and finish at 400 to 600, wet sanding for the best clarity. ClearWeld accepts acrylic paints best; other paints may not adhere. If you need a paintable repair, the Original J-B Weld syringe takes paint much better.

What temperature and chemicals will ClearWeld withstand?

ClearWeld holds up to about 250 degrees F once cured. Do not heat a repair to 350 degrees F for paint curing, and do not use it on stove burners or anything going into a hot oven. Gasoline will dissolve it, and it is not recommended around antifreeze or glycol. Oils and penetrating lubricants do not harm it. It is electrically non-conductive.

Is ClearWeld safe for food contact, aquariums, or pets?

No. ClearWeld is considered non-toxic once fully cured but is not food-grade rated, so keep it off mugs, plates, cookware and anything that touches food. It has not been tested for animal use, so J-B Weld does not recommend it in aquariums or on pet items. Expect a strong odor while curing that fades once the cure is complete.
