Frequently Asked Questions

What is the brush applicator actually good for?

The 6g bottle has a brush built into the cap, so you spread a thin, even film instead of placing drops. That suits large mating surfaces, porous materials such as wood and cloth, and small parts where a drop would flood the joint and squeeze out. The 20g SuperWeld uses a precision tip instead, which is better for pinpoint work.

How fast does it set, and when is it fully cured?

It sets in less than a minute and reaches full cure in 24 hours, with a rated strength of 3000 PSI. Because you are brushing a thin film across more area, expect the set toward the longer end of that range on a large joint. Hold the parts together until it grabs, then leave the repair undisturbed for the full 24 hours before loading it.

What surfaces does it bond?

Wood, metal, plastics and composites, PVC, brick, ceramic, cloth and carpet, glass, rubber, fiberglass and tile. It performs best on rigid plastics and metal. Like every cyanoacrylate it needs close fitting surfaces and will not fill a gap, and it is not suitable for polystyrene or Styrofoam, which it attacks rather than bonds.

How do I keep the brush from gluing itself into the bottle?

Wipe the brush on a scrap of card before you screw the cap down, and keep adhesive off the bottle threads. Store it in the refrigerator between uses and let it come back to room temperature before you open it. Shelf life is around a year once opened, because moisture in the air is what cures the adhesive.

Can I use it to build up a worn steel surface?

No. Brush-On goes on as a thin film and has no body to fill or rebuild lost material. To build up a worn steel part, use J-B Weld SteelStik (8267), a steel reinforced epoxy putty you can knead, shape and press into place, and which can be drilled, tapped, sanded and painted once it has cured.

How should I store SuperWeld to make it last longer?

For the longest shelf life, store SuperWeld nose-up in the refrigerator at 34–40°F. Keeping it upright helps keep the tip clear, and the cool temperature extends its usable life.
